For those wanting an update on little Willow, most of the time she is evil. But every evening she climbs up on my shoulder and falls asleep. She even lets me pet her – most of the time she thinks petting is an attack. But here she is being cute and sweet for once.

I thought I would go ahead and share this with you all. I am running a contest on my facebook fan page. I need names for the tombstones in my Zombie Cemetery art – so I am going to randomly pick some names from folks that post on my FB fanpage on the topic of the Zombie Cemetery. The winner will receive a free digital coloring page that they can print and share with friends and family. I thought they would make great party favors at Halloween.

Anyway there will be 2 winners immortalized in the art as well as getting some nifty art to color.

Reverie

[caption id="attachment_896" align="alignright" width="231" caption="DragonTattoo"][/caption] I have been hard at work, even as the family went out of town to celebrate the 4th of July, I was painting during every spare moment. The Dragon Tattoo was of course the result of working through the holiday.
But just before we left, I completed Reverie. I was unable to name this painting on my own, so I offered a print in exchange for coming up with a name on my facebook fan page. Kathy was the one that came up with the perfect name and earned a print of the painting. Be sure and fan me on facebook for other such opportunities in the future.
Next is some Zombies meet Art Nouveau. I bet you are all looking forward to seeing that.

Drawing and Painting

I have been busy. Lots of late nights sketching, inking and painting. Every moment seems to be spent creating. I take my daughter to swim classes and I draw, I take her to the pool, and I ink, sitting in a restaurant with my watercolors while waiting for dinner to arrive. Really at some point I am going to need to get more sleep. But in the mean time if you want to keep up to date with what I am working on, check out my facebook fan page.

Well, it is nearly 2 am here, so I better try and get some sleep. There are swim classes in the morning and my son’s birthday to celebrate.

I have been busy the last few days. This selection isn’t even everything I have done in the last couple of week. I am either getting better at avoiding housework or better at squeezing in some art time. Usually once K is out of school for the summer, art doesn’t happen as much. But I am very happy with my recent work. I still have LOTS of sketches that I want to paint and I have no time to finish those. The pirate mercat and the 2 I just posted today are just a few of them.

Illustration Friday – Ripple Project

This week Illustration Friday is supporting the Ripple Project. This is my first submission. I might have to make more, just because being able to make a bit of art to help out with the crisis that is affecting out Gulf Coast, helps me not feel so helpless.
Being a Texan and realizing how this will prevent my daughter from experiencing some of the fun I had on the Texas and Mississippi coasts growing up saddens me. If this takes as long to clean up as the Alaska spill did, I am not likely to get to take my daughter crabbing or build giant sand castles with her in the places I did those things as a kid. Maybe if we all pitch in a small bit at a time we can help this clean up happen in time for us to enjoy our oceans again and to see the sea turtles, coastal birds, and fish prosper again.

Water Garden – A Mercat

This is what I worked on between panels (and during panels) at A-Kon this weekend. I am so very happy with the results. I did a lot more detail than is usual for me and lots of layers of colors to get them to be so very vibrant. It was soothing to work on and the results, I think, are soothing to look at. And of course, I might be a bit crazy, because I put it on eBay with a starting bid of only 99 cents.

Of course A-Kon was a blast. I really want more Copic markers after going to workshops all three days. And I did buy some cool art. And my feet hurt from walking up and down stairs for 3 days. If you love animation, web comics, costuming or whimsical art, I so recommend attending this convention in the future.

A New Pirate Mercat Sketch

Still adjusting to this whole Linux thing. I think I like it, but some of my existing hardware doesn’t. Poor James is having to walk me through scanning every time, cause it doesn’t always recognize the scanner. And considering I want to scan things at 1am, it isn’t making for a happy husband.
Anyway, he did wake up and set things up to scan this whimsical little mercat. You will notice that the scan has more detail than I have been doing lately. This is because I found a larger sketchbook to work with, so more room for details. Tomorrow, I will have to start painting. Right now, I need to get to bed since I have an appointment in just 7 and a half hours, and much to do before that in the morning.

I just realized that I haven’t posted the promised completed paintings that I showed you the line drawings of a few days back. Well here they are in full color for your viewing pleasure.
Also I have a new sketch that I have been wanting to share. I had to wait until the scanner was hooked up to the new computer to show it off. But once again life with a kitten is showing itself in my drawings. When I can get around to actually painting this one, those round things on the hat band will be gears, except fo the one that is obviously a pocket watch. Then of course there is always the squished fairy. I really don’t know which I want to paint first….
