Some New Work

I have been busy the last few days. This selection isn’t even everything I have done in the last couple of week. I am either getting better at avoiding housework or better at squeezing in some art time. Usually once K is out of school for the summer, art doesn’t happen as much. But I am very happy with my recent work. I still have LOTS of sketches that I want to paint and I have no time to finish those. The pirate mercat and the 2 I just posted today are just a few of them.

Zombie Cat- Illustration Friday Theme- Expired

This week’s illustration Friday theme is “Expired”. And if you don’t consider the undead zombie kitty expired, his little mouse friend most definitely is, unless the bite of a zombie cat can make a zombie mouse. Which would mean an endless game of cat and mouse. And if the zombie cat is anything like my kitty, the longer you can play with them the better (but my kitty likes lizards since I doubt she has ever seen a mouse in her life). Yummy fun forever….

Well here we have my next project. I really like the framing of the image. I used to do the hand drawn and painted frames a lot during my college days and I return to the idea from time to time. I like how it makes this whimsical little piece of art look a bit more formal – like a little icon.

Toile de Buddha

This happy little Buddha was inspired by Toile de Jouy fabric. The original drawing is available on etsy, just click the image and it will take you there.
But he is also a fun little fabric on spoonflower. I hope to be able to make him available for sale to the public soon.

Well here is my latest concept. I sketched this directly onto the watercolor paper without any preliminary sketches. You can see where I have lightly sketched in where the border design will be. Now to decide what the border design will be.

Another Fairy Cat and a Cute Witch

Yesterday I went to Generator Coffee, hung some art and then finished up 2 different watercolor paintings – shown here. James is home on his vacation and had dental surgery and I have found it hard to work with him here. I suspect that if he ever retires I might have to rent a studio outside the home.
I honestly just don’t work when he is around. I paint while he is at work or after everyone has gone to bed. And it isn’t just him, I get a lot less art done during the summer when the kids are home. My problem isn’t having people watch me paint because I actually enjoy going to public places and working. But when I draw and paint at coffee shops or in a park people will watch, but don’t talk to me. When I am home with family they are always asking where the peanut butter is, or if I got their socks washed or the dreaded question of “do we have plans today, this weekend, on this random day in the future”.
I think it is those little interruptions that are really minor, but require you to think just a little bit or go find the day planner that disrupt the creative flow the most. After a few years of it, I think I just don’t try to create art when family is around because I know some little question will come up. Crocheting is safer.

K’s Halloween Bento

Halloween Bento

My other creative endeavor is making my daughter fun lunches. I though I would share her special Halloween Lunch with you all.
First is the Green Hairy Monster. I made a layer of cauliflower and topped that with brocolini and then nested 2 small chocolate eyeballs in it.
Then the Orange jack-o-lantern was actually very easy. I made light cuts in the skin and then peeled the pieces off.
The tombstone is made from tuna salad and an english muffin and the RIP is cut from a sheet of Nori and is on a bed of lettuce.
And the skull is a rice ball and I used the nori to make the eye and nose sockets.
And just to keep them in season, I am calling the red grapes blood clots.

Licensing

I think it is way past time to start putting my work out in the world for licensing. So step 1 seemed to be making a page saying so here.

New Bookmark Designs

I am very excited to be able to offer some new designs in laminated bookmarks. There are a lot of them, so you might as well click on the picture here and see the rest. We have fantasy stuff, kitties, fantasy horses and other stuff. There is even a deal on bulk ordering the bookmarks to save money.
I have already had to give the kids each a bookmark of their choice. Yes we are a family of readers and bookmarks are just the coolest way to carry around our favorite art.
