Coloring Contest- 400 Fan Celebration

In Celebration for having over 400 wonderful folks “like” my fan page over on facebook, I am having a coloring contest. Here are the very simple rules
1. – 2 Categories one for under 16 and one for 16 and over.
2. Click on the inking here and download the image
3. Print and color by hand or color digitally.
4. upload the finished coloring in the appropriate folder on my facebook fanpage. Under 16 folder 16 and over folder If you have trouble uploading just email me the images at melia (at) bemusedart.com with “coloring contest” in the subject.
5. Tag your image with your fb page or your parents if you are a minor. Also include your name and age if under 16.
6. Tell your friends so they can “like” your picture.
7. Accepting images through the end of May 2011. On June 1st I will announce the winners.
The most “likes” win.

New Projects, Plotting, Planning, Being Creative

I have been crazy busy. Painting, plotting, working with some great companies for licensing. I created a few new mermaid paintings in celebration of MerMay at My Tag Art. They have all my cute little mercats and mermaids on sale for only $1 for the month of May.
I also created a fun blackberry fairy for the “Summer” theme at Kat’s Magical Patches. Be sure and stop by and vote for a chance to win a fabric patch or iron on transfer of your very own.
With these cool fabric blocks from KMP, I have been having a strong desire to take up crazy quilting again.
And I am working on a new painting of a mother goddess/fairy and am going to try using a sepia ink instead of my usual black.I know it might not seem like much to you all, but it shakes my world up a bit to make such a basic change at the beginning of a project.
Also stayed tuned. I am plotting a big giveaway and coloring contest soon. I already have promises from the companies I work with for cross stitch pattern, fabric blocks, and digital tubes.

Reworking Pearl

Okay another painting that I have reworked. I actually was working on this one at the same time as Shaharazade, so that while I waited for a layer of paint to dry on one, I could be working on the other one. I was up until 2am Sunday working on these and ignored my housework today in order to finish these. But it was so worth it.

This past weekend I went to All-Con. I was lucky enough to get to talk with another artist about what I was doing and where I really wanted my art to go. She made some interesting suggestions to improve my art and make it stand out a bit more. So when I got home, I pulled up one of my paintings and started to play with it digitally to see if the advice was good for my work. The result was amazing, even if I was sloppy with it and didn’t even bother to plug in my WaCom table to do it. So I got to work. I pulled out the original painting and started adding some paint. I really like the results.

What Dreams May Come and Beginning a 365 Project

What Dreams May Come is the beginning of what I hope will be a new art a day project. They may not be big or fancy or what I complete might be a larger painting that I have been working on for some time. But something will be finished. Also What Dreams May Come was created for the Enchanted Visions Project. I also hope to make it a book mark design.

Lady Of The Forest

Lady of the Forest is one of my latest paintings. It is also one of my larger watercolors at 11×14 inches. With the new year I am having so much fun making art, that I am having difficulty finding the time to post it. I have several pieces that still need to be posted to etsy, Cafepress and Zazzle. Work is getting posted in once place, but not the others. If you see something that you really want as a print, let me know and I will make a point of listing it at imagekind for you. Same goes for nifty items at Zazzle or Cafepress.
Back to painting for me. Take care, and hopefully I will come up from the painting again soon to show off some of the stuff that I am making.

Happy Birthday Queen Kat Designs

To celebrate Queen Kat Designs 4th Birthday, I made a card.

It was made from scraps. I do so like being able to make use of every little bit.
Basic green card stock was fancied up with the fairy background stamp and some green ink. Layered that on top of some pink and dark teal card stock. There is polkadot paper onder all of that. I cut up some sparkly fancy strpes for the border and the “celebrate” is a sticker.
I used the Anticipation Kitty Stamp Set for the kitty with cupcake and the “happy birthday”. After stamping the kitty on cardstock with black ink, I colored it with my Copic markers to match the papers. I then put a party hat sticker that came with the papers, on the kitty’s head and cut it all out. Then I attached it to the card using that nifty tape that makes it pop out from the background.
And because I just couldn’t get enough of the stamping, I decorated up the envelope too. I used the Fairy Background again with some light pink where the address would go. Then I used the Spot It background stamp with a darker pink ink and colored it with copics to match the polkadot paper. I also used up the last bit of the polkadot paper inside the envelope, because I just had to make it as colorful as I possibly could.

A New ARt Journal

I really had fun with my first mini art journal, but my paper choices made me feel limited in what I could do with it. So when I discovered the Canson Mixed Media Pad that seemed just like the most perfect solution. More fun stuff to play with.

I used 4 sheets from the 7×10 pad and folded them in half, then made a cover from Sassafrass In Stiches card stock. I used some more paper and die cuts from the In Stitches line and a tag from Sassafrass’s Think Pink. And a basic pink card stock left over from Valentines that I stamped in hot pink with QKD’s Fairy Background stamp.

Inside I stamped the inside cover with the same fairy background in a soft pink and then framed it in hot pink with the Funky Swirls and a stamp from the Retro Circles set. Then page one – the one that I hope will set the tone from the whole mini journal. I just love how it turned out.
I drew a soft rectangle with a watercolor crayon and then started coloring everything outside the rectangle with colors picked from the cover. I went over that with a wet brush to soften all the crayon. Then I stamped the center of the rectangle with the fairy background stamp again in soft pink. Used my very expensive technical pen in size .60 to draw flowers and write Bloom in the rectangle. Then I colored it all with prismacolors in pink and yellows.

Art journaling is something I am hoping will remind me to continue to play with my art.
