I have been so very busy making art, that I haven’t been making time to blog. Bad me. Or maybe not. Crimson Wings is one of my recent paintings. I still have my latest mermaid to list and show and am already working on a new mercat.
This week has been very exciting for me. I will admit to being a bit of a geek and getting down right giddy about new tools. This week my new scanner arrived. What is so very cool about it is that it will scan my 11×14 inch paintings and I won’t have to go out and get them scanned. Since I scan the inking as well as the finished painting, that led to me having to wait to paint until I could get to the printer. I suspect that the end result will be more larger paintings by moi.
Also recently I signed some new licensing contracts for fabric blocks and iron on transfers with Kat’s Magical Patches. I am very excited about these. Long ago and far away I used to make crazy quilts. It is what I did to recover from art school in order to keep creating even though I didn’t want to paint anything during those years. When I found myself spending more time designing the embroidery patterns, I decided it was time to pick up the paint brush again and sold the sewing machine. These patches remind me of the tobacco silks that were popular with the crazy quilters back then. And now I find myself dreaming of crazy patch again. A little mercat with pearls sewn on and green chenille yarn couched down for sea weed. Or maybe a fairy cat with satin stitching in that cool embroidery thread that changes color with the light.

Thanksgiving Dragons Stamp Concept

I have been looking forward to this day. I am excited to announce that I am now a member of the Queen Kat Designs team of stamp designers. The first two stamps featuring my designs came out today, and QKD is running a special of 30% on both of them. The designs are the Thanksgiving Dragon and the Christmas Dragon decorating the tree.

Another cute drawing for my Holiday Dragons Series. Here we have a pair of dragons dressed up for Thanksgiving and sharing a hug. The kids have been proving lots of ideas for Holiday themed dragon drawings ever since I did the ghost dragon.

Dragon with laptop

This week’s Illustration Friday theme is Impatient. The design for this drawing was suggested by my son who is about to go off to college to study computer animation. This little dragon is impatient for the computer to load.

New Greener Note Cards

And by greener, I don’t mean I am using more green paint.

I was very excited to find some blank card and envelopes that are made from 100% recycled material and some clear bags that are biodegradable. And they are also acid free.
They arrived in the mail today and I have had some fun making cards again. I am still working on scanning them and getting them listed on etsy. But they look very nice.

Bookmark Designs – Catfish/Mercats

I am working on some bookmark designs. These are the first of them. I thought it might be nifty to offer them as black and white coloring sheets with 4-6 per page (depending on how well they fit on standard cardstock pages) as well as full color laminated bookmarks. I am of course still in the design stage of it all.
Here we have the mercat/catfish. I am also thinking that I need some fairy cats, witches and dragons. If any of you have any ideas for subjects for bookmarks, please post it here and I will get to work on it.
