ArtFest

This started out as just a drawing to occupy my time while waiting for things to start at ArtFest today. It was hot. But when I got home and scanned it, I realized that that image of discomfort and heat and maybe even low level anxiety mixed with creativity also could be a good representation of worry for this week’s illustration friday…..
Now granted when you add in the second page of the art journal drawing (yes, I am trying this art journalling thing, but I am not very good at it, cause I want to show off what i do in a way that art journalling really isn’t very good at) the peice has more energy and doesn’t look so worried to my eyes. But then I guess I am always just a bit worried before a show. I mean, willl folks really like my art this time?

In case you wanted to know, I did get some nice comments about my paintings. And I discovered that the one painting that everyone liked the most, I didn’t get photographed. I thought I did. I thought I photographed it weeks ago and had uploaded the images to imagekind, but I was wrong. So now I am worried that I will actually sell the painting….

ArtFest

Well tomorrow is the start of ArtFest. This year it is going to be held at Fair Park in Dallas. Friday night from 6pm to 9pm is a Winestroll, which sounds like it will be a very nice event. Saturday will be from 10am to 7pm and Sunday from 10am to 6pm. Parking is free!

I have been doing ArtFest since it moved to Addison a few years back, and am excited to be participating for the first time at Fair Park. This show was held at Fair Park for many years at Fair Park, and it is cool to see it back at the original location.

Stop by and see me. I will be on row C-4.

Bath House Cultural Center Spring Art Mart

April 11, 2008 on 5:07 pm | In Art, Festivals | No Comments

Just to let you all know that I will be exhibiting at the Bath House Art Mart next week. It is part of the Dallas Art Dealer’s Association’s Gallery Walk. I will be in the theater this year.
Come by and visit.

Since my computer died, I haven’t been able to keep things updated. The computer I am borrowing until my new one arrives doesn’t have even the most basic graphics software installed so no new art to show off. But if you come to the show, you will see some new stuff. Some art cards and a pen an ink of Cthulhu even.

I am very excited. I just got my acceptance to this show. It is usually a good show and museums are free for the weekend.
Yes, I have been accepted every year that I have applied, but I still get a rush when I get these letters. Despite doing this for several years now, these acceptance letters to juried shows still make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. They like me, they really like me.

Huffines Art Festival

October 23, 2006 on 10:08 am | In Events, Festivals | No Comments

This past weekend I was at the Edom Festival of the Arts. It was a nice little show and I am looking forward to going back next year if I can find some grunt labor for Friday set up.

Saturday a fellow walks into my booth with his wife and they are looking through my prints, and I notice a card sticking out of his back pocket that looks very familiar. So me being the rather blunt go getter that I am asked him if I could see what he had in his pocket. I was right, that was the top of the hat from my Party Cat Painting. The flyer was for Huffines Art Festival, which is the up coming weekend. I never knew they were using my painting for the flyer this year.

The image is reversed and the colors are a bit off, but that is understandable since they were copying the image from a 35mm slide.

Also I got to see a wonderful performance by Dreamsicles at the show.  The music was great and several of the songs had me giggling nonstop.  So I did have to acquire their entire collection of CDs.  My favorite CD is Cary’s Yellow, but James prefers their self titled CD.

Christmas Cards, New Prints and Festivals

Well the new Christmas Cards are finally in. To cover shipping I had to price the cards at $15 for a set of 6.  They are beautiful.  I am so happy with how they turned out.  Nice glossy finishes.  And they are big cards too. 5.5×8.5!

I have also been working on getting up to date on my print listings.  First I am working on small prints as I am further behind on those than anything.

Small Prints on eBay can be found here.

Also I am in the midst of my fall art festival season.  Upcoming shows are Edom this weekend and Huffines Art Trails the weekend after that.

Then Kismet is Nov. 11th, where my original painting In The Spotlight will be raffled off.

Happenings!

Well I am excited to announce that there is a new retail store carrying my prints and note cards in Arlington, and soon possibly some original works of art as well.  It is Mystic Moon Mansion at Cooper and Park Row, just a hop, skip and a jump from the University of Texas at Arlington.  Luna is wonderful to work with, and I really enjoyed meeting her this week.  I am also hoping to acquire some of the items in her clothing line. There was a jacket there that I am not sure I can live without.  She also carries Laurel Burch hand bags.  There is a part of me that secretly wants to be Laurel Burch, with artwork on scarves, handbags, journals, and note cards.  But for now I am content to have my work hanging in the same lovely shop.

Also this weekend is the Great Steak of Texas show.   The show opens at 10am tomorrow and goest til 11pm that night and is open 10am to 6pm on Sunday.  And I am debuting some new prints at the show.  Dallas and Texas Wine Country.  I will also have some prints that I mentioned here, but never got a chance to put in my eBay store.

Things have been very crazy around here with my son’s biopsies and art festival season beginning, and working on the mural for the Kellam’s nursery.  I will have to get photos of that once they get all of the furniture in there.  And now that they have confirmed that it is a girl, I have been given permission to go in next weekend and paint pink and violet flowers in the fields with the sheep.   Anyway I am looking forward to Nov. when my life slows down just a bit.

Speaking of Novemeber……The original In The Spotlight painting ($885 retail) will be raffled off at Kismet on Nov. 11th.  I believe that each person gets a free raffle ticket with admisssion and can buy extra tickets to increasee one’s chance of winning.

Yule Cat and Seussian Suburb

First is the Yule Cat painting I promised to post a couple weeks ago, and just haven’t gotten around to doing until tonight.
Yule Cat

11×14″

This is the last of my Christmas card designs. This one will have “Blessed Yule” inside. I am still offering preorders on these cards at $12 for a package of 8. Later the cards will be $12 for a set of 6 or $3.50 each.

And this adorable painting is available on ebay for a great starting price.

The second painting James said reminded him of the works of Dr. Seuss so it was titled Seussian Suburbia.

This one is also available on ebay at a great starting price.

Also the Fall Festival Season is about to start. So these will be the last 7 day auctions that I list for awhile. Not sure how many auctions I will be listing.

Saturday September 23rd is the Studio Tour and afterwards Kismet. I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Canvas and Festivals

August 16, 2006 on 11:07 pm | In Art, Festivals | No Comments

Well things are going well. The 20×60″ canvas I ordered arrived yesterday. I am excited. A canvas nearly as tall as little ol’ me. The last time I did a painting this size wasin college and it was a painting of Thor. I wish I knew where it ended up, as I still have the companion peice of Freyja hanging in my dinningroom.

I am going to texture the canvas tomorrow so that i can start painting on it Monday. which just happens to be the birthday of the wonderful woman the painting was commissioned for. I believe that it is to be her birthday gift, but it took so long for the canvas to arrive.

I am also working on a special request of 3 paintings on cardboard. i have completed 2 of them and have really enjoyed working on them. They are an unussual shape. I gesssoed and textured the board and am painting on it. I can’t tell you what it is as I think it might be intended as a surprise for someone and that someone might just read this post. So nyah nyah!

I also have gotten prints of several of my latest paintings.

I have small and large prints of

Please forgive me, but the larger image had to be replaced due to theft.

I also now have small prints of the collage Midsummer Night

I have Also gotten acceptance Letters to some of the shows I applied for this Fall.

Sept. 23 Open Lake Ray Hubbard Studio Tour. You can come to my little studio to see where I will painting during the upcoming cooler months. yes, my new studio is almost ready. We are keeping the garage doors instead of installing a regular wall at this time because I am wanting to start painting even larger. I have the bars to stretch a 72×72″ canvas already and am looking forward to that. Hubby thinks I am insane to paint something that I will need a step ladder to reach the top of, but oh it will look so very cool.

Sept 23 Kismet. I might have to send someone to set up there for me, as I don’t think the studio tour will end early enough for me to get there on time.

Sept 30-Oct 1 Great Steak of Texas show in Frisco

Oct 14th Mutts, Mystics and Moonpies at White Rock

Oct. 21-22 Edom Art Festival in Edom Texas

There are a couple more shows that I am considering applying for, but I am not sure since I am already very busy this fall.

I am going to have to find time to paint at some point.
