New Fairy Cat bookmark Design

Well, this is my next project. Took all day just to get to this point and it is only 3×9 inches. I am hoping to get it painted so I can make some bookmarks from it before Friday.
Why Friday? Why this weekend is my first outdoor art festival in a couple of years. If it goes well, I might try and talk J into doing more of these again. If I rent a tent, I can get by without a van. Which is good, because the old van bit the dust and we have no plans to replace it.
Anyway, if nothing else, I will get some bookmark pages for folks to color to have at the festival, as well as coloringbooks, original art, prints and other fun things. So Saturday stop by the Thrill of the Grill festival in Plano and get yourself some art.

Stamp Release Sneak Peak at QKD

The first week of the month is always my favorite because it is when the new stamps come at at Queen Kat Designs. And to wet our appetites for all the nifty new stamps coming out later this week, they are having a blog hop starting at the QKD Blog. There are some fantastic new stamps coming out, and some of them I even designed.
Of course my favorite part of these blog hops is seeing how the creative and brilliant designers interpret my little drawings and what wonderful thing they can create from a simple stamp. The ones on today’s blog hop are Penny’s Curious Kitty and Kimee’s Pop Dragon.
But start at the beginning with QKD Blog, because there are some other amazing things by other fantastic artists working with Queen Kat to bring you some quality stamps. We are talking mermaids and steampunk folks, you gotta check it out.

All-Con

All-Con 2010 was a lot of fun. I met some nifty guys that do some cool web comics such as Two Tokens Last Stop and my personal favorite – Tiki Coladas.
I learned a lot, got some painting done (see fairy cat with purple wings painting posted here), saw some really cool costumes and in general had a good time. My only wish is that I had gotten more rest before the con so I could have played more instead of wanting to take a nap in the middle of the afternoons. I am sad that I missed the roller derby, but J picked up a schedule so we can get some friends together and go sometime soon. I will admit that being surrounded by a bunch of web comic guys, I now have the urge to start a web comic. But sadly I am not a writer and have no clue about creating a story for such.

Subterranean Adventure

This week’s Illustration Friday theme is “subterranean”. So here we have a cute little dragon on a subterranean adventure. You will note that I have the illustration completed on Friday. That is because I was at All-Con all day and working on this cute little guy kept me busy in between talking to some fabulous web comic guys and wonderful con goers.

I will of course be at the con all weekend. For you poor folks that didn’t get to visit, I will try and post some photos after the con, and maybe even link to some of the web comics that I am being introduced to.

Wings and Orchids – A new pen and ink & Stamp Release

This one isn’t for sale online just yet, because it is being shipped to Visioncon in a few days along with a few other brand new works. It is a 5×7″ pen and ink on Bristol Board.

These are the 3 fun stamps based on my artwork that came out today at Queen Kat Designs. We have a fairy cat, a kitty with a cup of tea and the frozen dragon. I am also very excited that I now have enough stamp designs at QKD that I have my own section.
I love these stamps. I have been using them for mail art to decorate the packages I send out with my orders from etsy. And I am making my own Christmas tags with them. I will post some more of my projects later. But today I am having a crafting day at a friend’s house, so no time to get any thing scanned today.

Ladybug’s 36th Annual Christmas Collection

Notice the nifty feather head thingy here. You might have noticed that it isn’t my art. That is because it is a beautiful creation from one of the many wonderful artists and artisans at the Ladybug show I do each year. I got to help set up some of the work and had a nifty sneak peak.
They have gifts for the kids in the form of beautiful hand made wooden cars, trains trucks and airplanes to cute outfits for the girlie girls.
They have gifts for the burlesque dancers and steampunk enthusiasts in the form of some cool hats and feathered fasteners for the hair.
They have more standard gift giving items with a wide variety of jewelry, home decor items, purses, bags, ect.
And of course they have original art, prints and cards. And I understand that there is even more that was due to arrive after I left.
Also since we all know a ladybug fan, I will also make a special mention of the fact that there are lots of lady bug items just cause the show is called Ladybugs.
I bet now you want to know where and when you can find this special shopping event. Well it is held in the studio of Martha Howell at 1308 W. Lavender in Arlington, TX. And it opens this Thursday Dec. 3rd 6 to 9 pm. Then it will run from Dec 4- 13 for all your gift giving needs. The hours will be Mon-Sat 10am to 6pm and Sun 1-5pm. I will be there this Saturday from 2-6pm myself. Of course my art will be there as long as it lasts.

Dr. Sketchy in Denton

I was lucky enough to get to go to a Dr. Sketchy event last night. Glam Amour was the model.
It has been many years since I was able to work from a live model. And my drawing abilities showed that. But significant improvements were made through the evening and I managed some decent sketches. I am so going next month, cause if I improve as much again as I did last night, I should have some pretty good drawings by the end of the evening.
