I have been busy. Lots of late nights sketching, inking and painting. Every moment seems to be spent creating. I take my daughter to swim classes and I draw, I take her to the pool, and I ink, sitting in a restaurant with my watercolors while waiting for dinner to arrive. Really at some point I am going to need to get more sleep. But in the mean time if you want to keep up to date with what I am working on, check out my facebook fan page.

Well, it is nearly 2 am here, so I better try and get some sleep. There are swim classes in the morning and my son’s birthday to celebrate.

This is what I worked on between panels (and during panels) at A-Kon this weekend. I am so very happy with the results. I did a lot more detail than is usual for me and lots of layers of colors to get them to be so very vibrant. It was soothing to work on and the results, I think, are soothing to look at. And of course, I might be a bit crazy, because I put it on eBay with a starting bid of only 99 cents.

Of course A-Kon was a blast. I really want more Copic markers after going to workshops all three days. And I did buy some cool art. And my feet hurt from walking up and down stairs for 3 days. If you love animation, web comics, costuming or whimsical art, I so recommend attending this convention in the future.

A New Pirate Mercat Sketch

Still adjusting to this whole Linux thing. I think I like it, but some of my existing hardware doesn’t. Poor James is having to walk me through scanning every time, cause it doesn’t always recognize the scanner. And considering I want to scan things at 1am, it isn’t making for a happy husband.
Anyway, he did wake up and set things up to scan this whimsical little mercat. You will notice that the scan has more detail than I have been doing lately. This is because I found a larger sketchbook to work with, so more room for details. Tomorrow, I will have to start painting. Right now, I need to get to bed since I have an appointment in just 7 and a half hours, and much to do before that in the morning.

Kitties! And Dragons too.

I just realized that I haven’t posted the promised completed paintings that I showed you the line drawings of a few days back. Well here they are in full color for your viewing pleasure.
Also I have a new sketch that I have been wanting to share. I had to wait until the scanner was hooked up to the new computer to show it off. But once again life with a kitten is showing itself in my drawings. When I can get around to actually painting this one, those round things on the hat band will be gears, except fo the one that is obviously a pocket watch. Then of course there is always the squished fairy. I really don’t know which I want to paint first….

Choices, Choices, Choices

I had to get a new computer this weekend, which getting it put together and up and running, took the entire weekend. Thank you, James. So I don’t feel like I got much done at all. I did manage to pick 3 drawings from my sketchbook and ink them. But now, I am not sure which to start painting. Maybe I will work on all 3 at once.
So here we have Adopt A Kitty- a cute little dragon with a new little kitten – if you have been following my blog I bet you know where that idea came from.
The other 2 cupcake drawings were inspired by a similar painting by Jennifer Nilsson featuring a mouse and cupcake – which you might notice on the right as a ad linking to her artfire account. You know you want to click on it and see the rest of her wonderful art. Go ahead, I don’t mind. These little drawing will still be here when you get back for you to check out. Maybe when you get back, I might even have added a bit of color to them.

Mommy Fairy Cat

Well Mommy is painted. And you might notice a pattern difference in Mama from my usual kitties. Up until recently I have had solid colored or basic tabby cats in my life. With the recent addition of little Willow, I think more fur patterns will be sprouting in my kitty art. This little painting was of course inspired by our new family addition, even the fur pattern on Mama. The painting is an 8×10″ watercolor.

This took all day since I spent a lot of time caring for little kitten of my own. It really is like having a baby in the house again. Maybe I can start painting this once J gets home, or maybe I will just go to bed early.

Mother’s Day Sketch- A Fairy Cat Family

With mother’s day coming up, and the German Shepherd having adopted a very tiny kitten, this drawing was destined to happen. Here we have a very elegant little mama fairy cat with her 3 little kittens. I just wish I could draw that mini tornado siren like wail that comes from such tiny little kitties.
Yes, little Willow has been recovering from her eye and respiratory infections nicely. She is active and loud, and very very adorable. I doubt that left eye will ever point at exactly the same spot as her right, but as an indoor kitty, her eyesight won’t be as big an issue for her. I am looking forward to the end of her quarantine so that she can be with our other kitty Hunin and won’t have to spend the night alone and crying in the other room. Of course Hunin is old and set in her ways and is sulking just from hearing the kitten. The vet assures me that she will accept a kitten better than she has accepted puppies or other cats. We are hoping.
But in the mean time I will try and get some work done on this little kitty mama and her babies in between feeding, medicating, and cuddling with Willow. It is hard to tear myself away, but I will do my best. If all else fails, I can post photos of Willow for your enjoyment.

Metamorphosis

This week’s illustration friday theme was “Cocoon”. So Saturday I worked on this little watercolor painting of a little fairy dragon’s metamorphosis. Then Sunday my huge german shepherd decided he needed a metamorphosis of his own, and has become a mama kitty.
A little 4-5 week old kitten with some minor health problems was discovered in our back yard by Wolfie and his response was to mother it. So we have adopted the cutest little beastie you have ever seen. She is right now sitting in an old check book box on my desk that is lined with an old washcloth. We are of course having to hand feed her a mixture of moist kitten food and kitten milk, and give her a couple different meds twice a day and do all the things kitty mommies are supposed to do. Although Wolfie doesn’t think that we do a good enough job at the cleaning part and washes her as often as he can. I am terrified that he will accidentally eat her since he is smaller than his muzzle and he can’t see what he is doing while licking her silly.
And of course you all want to see the little ball of fluff that has turned out household upside down don’t you? Here is Willow, our new baby.
